Household evicted after home fireplace in Miami Gardens – WSVN 7News | Miami Information, Climate, Sports activities

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) – A family was evicted after a fire broke out in their Miami Gardens home.

The fire broke out in a house in the Northwest 12th Avenue area near 170th Terrace just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters worked overnight to put out the fire. The homeowner said she was sleeping when she heard her son scream.

“Everything is gone; it is ruined,” said the homeowner, who did not reveal her name. “We have nothing left. If we had slept soundly, thank God it could have been much worse.”

The homeowner said she and her family were lucky to have her son awake because there were no working smoke alarms in the house.

“I was in the room sleeping and my son was screaming that something was on fire,” she said. “I jumped up and looked and saw the fire and I immediately ran out the door and ran to the neighbors to call 911.”

“Smoke was just coming out of the ceiling,” said a neighbor. “You hit. I knocked loudly on the door and jumped out of bed because I went to bed and they said ‘Fire! Fire! House on fire! ‘ I say, ‘What? House on fire? ‘ They said, “Call 911,” so I did that and I called 911. “

The family was safely evacuated, including a 6 year old child and a 5 month old baby.

The homeowner said she knew how to start the fire.

“Just a kid playing with a lighter, matches – one or the other, just a kid,” she said.

“We just thank God that everyone got out alive,” said the neighbor. “That’s the most important thing, you know? A house can be rebuilt, but lives cannot be replaced. “

Firefighters have ruled the house unsafe and the American Red Cross is providing support to the family following the fire.
